In Haapsalu, at the Museum of the Coastal Swedes, visitors can see a photo exhibition themed around the Ruhnu fiddlers. The exhibition was ceremoniously opened in Haapsalu on the museum’s birthday, December 28, 2023, and will remain open until March 16, 2024, before continuing its journey.
The focal point of the photo exhibition is four native Ruhnu islanders and musicians who have been exemplars at the Ruhnu fiddle camp for years. The exhibition commemorates the 10th anniversary of the Ruhnu fiddle camp and was curated by Sänni Noormets and Lee Taul. Also present at the opening were other camp organizers Karoliina Kreintaal and Kairi Leivo, who performed Ruhnu fiddle and song traditions.
During the winter months, the Museum of the Coastal Swedes is open from Tuesday to Saturday, 10 AM to 4 PM. Address: Sadama 32, Haapsalu.
For those interested, we recommend reading a comprehensive review of the exhibition in the newspaper “Lääne Elu”, dated January 4, 2024, available at https://online.le.ee/2024/01/04/rannarootsi-muuseumi-sunnipaeval-kolas-ruhnu-muusika/ (paid article).
